Custom cloning fees

At GDEC we are committed to creating high-quality plasmids at the lowest possible price.  Our pricing model is simply extrapolated from consumable costs.  However, each project has different levels of complexity, which is reflected in a sliding scale for the price.  For individual projects we will work with you to generate a custom quote and timeline.

The approximate range of plasmid fees is from $20-$100/plasmid. We find that large/complex plasmids, and plasmids that are cloned using hierarchical methods are at the higher end of this scale. Below we work out examples of the individual services we provide and examples of cloning projects.

Synthesis fees

GDEC does not do in-house synthesis and will order it from a 3^rd party.  Below is a chart of gene synthesis prices to help estimate the cost of cloning.

Note on user groups

Please note that internal users, external non-profit users, and for-profit users are subject to different fees according to Rice policy.  Some TMC members are charged the internal rate including: Baylor College of Medicine, University of Houston, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and the Texas A&M Health Science Center-Institute of Biosciences and Technology.
